Coca-Cola is not the first company to place a paper bottle for beverages on the European market. The beer manufacturer Carlsberg had brought out a paper bottle, the Green Fibre Bottle, before the Coca-Cola bottle.

More beer is being consumed at home
The beer industry is suffering due to a drop in beer consumption in bars, restaurants and clubs due to the corona virus. However, beer sales recorded an uptick in retail and in the beverage markets in the first six months of 2020, which even led to bottlenecks in beer can production in parts.

Coca-Cola bottles made out of rPET
Sweden will soon see the launch of the first Coca-Cola bottles made out of 100% rPET. Other brands produced by the group will also use this fully recycled plastic. The beverage giant has even replaced its sweeping, red-and-white lettering to motivate consumers to recycle the bottles.

According to company statements, they are about to make a breakthrough: The world’s first paper beer bottle is 100 percent bio-based and fully recyclable.

Bag-in-box wines: handy and sustainable
This packaging system was invented in the USA in 1955: A cardboard box with a handle contains a plastic pouch, which is connected to a tap that in turn emits the beverage. Wines have been bottled in pouches for around three decades. But despite their many advantages, bag-in-box wines are only now gaining international recognition.

Beverage containers have been subject to new regulations in Germany since 1 January 2019. Thanks to innovative technologies and products, drinks packaging recycling has become simpler than ever.

Deposits on beverage containers
Deposits on beverage containers are regulated differently throughout the world. Some countries don’t have them at all, while others only have deposits on either reusable or disposable bottles, or on both. The oldest known deposit system for drinks was apparently implemented in Ireland, where customers could claim money back on returned mineral water bottles.
In Germany there is no uniform labelling for reusable packaging.

People agree around the globe: wherever possible packaging should be reused or recycled. However, the relevant provisions, conditions and labels are anything but consistent. New Enzyme Improves PET Recycling
Scientists at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and Britain’s University of Portsmouth have found an enzyme capable of decomposing PET.
